1. The Vampire Diaries

Nina Dobrev played the role of Elena Gilbert in this TV hit for 8 years. This show started out as a fresh, new series that captured everyone’s attention with its unique premise and characters. The story was engaging, the style was edgy, and the acting was amazing.

The Vampire Diaries is about two vampires, Stefan and Damon Salvatore, who fall in love with the same girl, Elena. She is torn between them as they fight over her affection while also trying to hide their true natures from her.

2. xXx: Return of Xander Cage 2017

Nina Dobrev plays the supporting role of Becky Clearidge in this action film series that stars Vin Diesel. This movie is the third installment of the xXx franchise. Xander Cage, a former xXx operative, is forced to return to active service to find and retrieve Pandora’s Box, a satellite-controlling device, which gets stolen from the CIA’s office in New York.  

3. Let’s Be Cops 2014

In this hilarious buddy cop film, Ryan and Justin attend their college reunion dressed up as cops. However, trouble ensues when they are presumed to be actual police officers and are made to fight gangsters. This is a must-watch comedy for all audiences and fans of the genre!

Nina Dobrev plays as ‘Mary’, a high school junior who falls in love with her teacher, played by Ben Bass. The film is a modern retelling of Pygmalion set in an American high school. The movie is about a college student who works as a high-class escort to help her family out of a financial bind. The movie was released in 2009 and has been criticized for its lack of storyline. Although, Chloe has won several awards and nominations (see below). One nomination the film received was the 2010 Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture for Lohan.

14. Away from Her 2006

“Away from Her” is a Canadian film directed by Sarah Polley, which was released in Canada and the U.S. in 2007. The film stars Julie Christie as an Alzheimer’s patient torn away from her spouse (played by Gordon Pinsent).

The movie presents the difference between love and companionship, and how the two sometimes blur. It is also the story of how tough it can be to cope with someone with Alzheimer’s, even though they are still your loved one.

The film addresses issues of intimacy and loss of intimacy within long-term relationships.

15. The Poet 2007

A young Nazi officer falls in love with the beautiful daughter of a Rabbi in war ravaged Poland. The story is set in 1941 when thousands of Jews are being killed by their Polish neighbours. The young officer decides to save the Rabbi’s daughter rather than kill her, leading to violent consequences for them both.

The movie is based on a true story about love during war time between two people from different cultures. It was nominated for five Australian Film Industry Awards in 2008 including Best Actor and Best Actress nominations for its lead actors.


So far, Dobrev’s career has been full of successful projects. She started off with minor roles on Canadian television series like Degrassi: The Next Generation and the movie Fugitive Pieces before landing the role that would make her famous – Elena Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries. After leaving The Vampire Diaries, she starred in two feature films – xXx: Return of Xander Cage and Flatliners – and is set to appear in another film called Departures later this year.
